Creai Code puts Creai in the terminal
Open a folder, type creai and say what to build. Files land in your folder, edits sync both ways, and the commands are the ones developers already know.
Creai, the platform that builds websites and apps from a conversation, now runs in the terminal. Creai Code, released this week by Aaron Aldana's Activate LLC, lets a developer open a folder, type creai and say what to build.
Why it matters
Developers already live in their editor, their terminal and git. Until now, using Creai meant leaving all three for a browser tab. Creai Code keeps the work where developers keep everything else: every file Creai writes lands in the folder after each turn, so it can be read, edited, diffed and committed like any other code.
How it works
- Install: one line on a Mac or Linux machine with Node.js 18 or newer:
curl -fsSL https://app.creai.dev/install | sh. It's also on npm as@creaidev/code, so npm, Yarn, pnpm and Bun all work. - Sign in: the first run opens the browser to sign in with an ordinary Creai account. Every command goes through the same workspace permissions as the app.
- Link a folder: the folder is tied to a Creation — an existing one, or a new site, app or game — through a small file,
.creai/creation.json, that can be committed. - Edit both ways: an app's source can be changed in your own editor and goes back up before your next message. If you and Creai change the same file, yours stays put and Creai's version arrives beside it as
.creai-new, so nothing is overwritten.
Commands developers already know
The commands borrow from tools developers use every day. /deploy (or Creai's own word, /shine) publishes. /revert (or /restore) goes back to an earlier version. /fork (or /kindle) starts your own copy of a public Creation. /pull and /push sync files. /plan asks for a plan before changes, and /fast or /best picks the model.
For scripts there is a print mode: creai -p "list the pages" runs one turn, prints the reply and exits. Press Ctrl+C while Creai is working and the job keeps running in the cloud; /pull brings the result down later.
What it costs
Creai Code is free to install and uses the same Creai account and credits as the web app. It is proprietary software from Activate LLC, used under the Creai Terms of Service.
