TikTok Shop with a US dropshipping supplier: the setup steps nobody warns you about

The short version

Warehouse binding errors, stock stuck at zero, wallet minimums and banned categories: the list we wish we'd had.

Five setup traps between a US supplier and TikTok Shop.

Connecting a US dropshipping supplier to TikTok Shop looks like a ten-minute job. It took us most of a week. None of the problems were hard, but none of them were documented in one place either, so here is the list we wish we'd had.

1. Warehouse addresses have to match character for character

When your supplier ships from its own US warehouses, TikTok needs those warehouses added to your shop, and the supplier then "binds" them. Ours kept failing with a generic "Failed to bind warehouse" error. The cause: TikTok had split the address into a street line and a suite line, while the supplier expected the suite inside the street line. Typing the street line exactly as the supplier lists it, with the suite field left empty, fixed it immediately.

Also check whether every warehouse on the supplier's list is still open. One of ours had closed, and leaving it in only produced errors.

2. Stock shows zero until the supplier syncs it

After listing, the quantity field in TikTok is locked at 0 and can't be edited. That's expected: the supplier's inventory sync fills it in. If it's still zero after a few hours, the warehouse binding is usually the problem, not the listing.

3. A product with no video barely exists

TikTok Shop sells through videos. A listing with good photos and no video gets almost no impressions. The fastest fix is one short clip posted from the shop's account with the product attached, then the affiliate program, so creators can post their own videos and earn a commission only on sales.

4. Pay-per-order vs. a pre-funded wallet

Many suppliers want you to top up a wallet so orders are paid automatically. Some set high minimums for certain funding methods. If that's not an option, you can pay each order by card as it comes in. The trade-off is a manual step per order. It's worth automating the alert, so an order never sits unpaid and ships late.

5. Keep restricted products out from the start

Supplier catalogs include items TikTok Shop and most ad platforms don't allow: adult products, ingestible supplements, some medical devices, weapons and vapes. Listing them can get a shop or an ad account flagged. Filter them before they're ever listed, not after.

The short version

  • Copy warehouse addresses exactly; remove closed ones.
  • Let the supplier's sync set stock.
  • Post a video with the product attached, then open affiliates.
  • Decide wallet vs. per-order payment, and alert on every order.
  • Block restricted categories before listing.

We automated most of this into Arbi after doing it by hand once: order alerts, payment limits and a category filter that keeps banned products out of the catalog. If you're setting up a shop yourself, the list above will save you the week.
